Yea, the truly real winners of every Perak fiasco caused since January. You people are truly truly, the real contributors to what has happened over in Perak.
Oh no, I ain't talking about the journalists, they may have decided on the news angle from the start that they found the correct angle to attack on the Perak situation, but the last one to talk are the editors. I guess the editors themselves have found their way to edit the news so that in a way they were targetting the ruling party in Perak.
And they won. They officially won. BN will now take over Perak, and soon, every mainstream media will be joyfully overloading their news with more political biasness.
Everywhere in my office, RTM1 was blaring with great delight, the situation of Perak turning into their desire. They don't need to edit any freaking scenario to make them look like they side with BN. They practically show it live on the spot. What is there to edit? Everything is coming into place. The Sultan of Perak knowing his "big" gut, surely had adhered and adored the BN administration. Why not eh?
The Mainstream media has won, for their efforts to become the doctors of spinning. Spin to the way that the Pakatan Rakyat were viable to attacks and the citizens themselves became wary of their tactics. Spin to the way that everything was Ngeh-Nga's fault, spin to the way that the Indian MPs do not get the treatment they deserve. And they finally did it.
The biggest victory of all, was the stopping of reliance onto blogs. Suddenly, you stopped seeing them trying to extract blog post, transcripts that are available online. They finally revert to their old ways, spinning, plundering their way into the citizen's mind to remind them....Bloggers are individuals, they do not represent you.
It's just sad isn't it? Their voice to reason, their voice to balance, just came to a standstill. Suddenly, with the power of money, everything makes sense. Why the sudden direction has turn into another way, why were they so daring to show their biased heads. Suddenly, that 90% fully BN coverage re-emerged.
Now, with one more state back in the hands of the power, they have more reasons to cheer, more reason to be frank with their political agenda, more reasons to be biased and not getting subjected to ridicule.
They are finally back on track.
I don't dare to say that the company I work in is extremely neutral, but when we saw the newsflash, our face fell. Each and everyone of us in the newsroom. But we still resumed to our schedule. The editors still rushed to make sure they know that such a thing really happened. The journalists in the room had to call those from outside to recheck facts and send it in for the editors to read.
I wonder if the company I work in will become the only mainstream media that will not succumbed to criticism? Or will it?
But for now, the mainstream media won the political agenda. BN should really thank them. They were the true slaves for you.
Here I would to show you what did Russell Peters say about the Media for his stand-up comedy:
I kinda blame the media for what's going wrong with the world right now, cause they kinda perpetuate stereotypes about people. They don't tell you that's what you were doing, they don't go "hey this is what you need to think", but then you know how people's brains work. What they do is that they enforce all this shit you know? What they do is that they'll show you an image of somebody, of a different racial background, and then they'll show you, an alternate image, like right away, something completely different. They don't say the two images are together. They kinda present it like "What do you think?" *shrugs*
Like what they do is that they'll show you an Asian guy and a car accident, *shrugs*
They show you an Indian guy and a 7-11, *shrugs* "What do you think?"
They show you an Arab guy and an explosion, "I KNEW IT!"
But that's what they do, they convince us that things aren't what we think, you know. And all they do is they kept showing you different Arabs and all the violence, they never show you Arab people doing their regular Arab Things.......
(For more please go check his latest comedy Red, White and Brown)
I concur. And I've been seeing that sort of alternating image.
PKR men are quitting almost everywhere, with BN men's smiling faces.
"What do you think?"
The victory goes to the mainstream media.

the real winners should be PR lah...they are the tragic heroes now...
no matter how the MSM spin it, they cannot hide the fact (since they've reported it earlier and Tun M and PR kept reminding it to everyone) that Jamaluddin and Osman are facing corruptian charges...and common sense tells us it's strange and fishy that BN would accept such people...
Worst is Bota's Nasarudin, hopping back and forth in the span of less than 3 weeks (no rakyat is going to reelect him in the future), and the BN is still willing to accept such a "friendly independent"?
Everything just goes to show how desperate BN is. The MSM is trying to ignore this (unpleasant) fact, and present the results as BN's "victory", but is it really a victory?
The rakyat is not stupid...Most of them have a brain and may I say, more common sense than most of our politicians (Yeah of course there some stupid unthinking ones also, but I believe they are the minority)..
The MSM can continue to spin it all they want, but their credibility will continue to fall at the same time, that is if it's not already at the rock bottom. =P
Aiyoh, even though the rakyat have the brains, they don't have the memory. Most of them probably won't follow up on the issue anymore. Heck, truth to be told I forgotten about their corruption charges. So kudos to the mainstream media. If they did not do a follow up, we won't remember them as the corrupted ones.
But what about Hee Yit Foong? Who can explain why is she leaving? She ain't corrupt, she ain't Malay, so what's going on right?
And noticed they stopped relying onto blogs for information and start giving the government more credit than before. Who can explain about that change?
They may not be credible, but to some they are the only source of information. It doesn't have to be just the internet as the alternative media. The rakyat can only trust MSM until Malaysiakini releases paper versions because some people just cannot stare at the screen.
The rakyat have no say in the mainstream media. It was all purely force fed. Could we spit it out and retaliate because the info "tasted" bad or do you swallow it and move on?
Unfortunately, most rakyat swallow it and move on. So the victor is still MSM, in my opinion.
PR can always act as the tragic heroes, but they ain't gonna get Perak back, not when the Sultan is rooting for the money.
=P
The MSM maybe powerful indeed, but you forgot about sms-es and the power of rumour + gossips. My dad receives a lot of angry sms-es (at BN and the "frogs" mostly) yesterday. Not sure, but hopefully they're spreading like fire. Why else would close to 10,000 supporters showed up at Nizar's residence yesterday night?
Hee may not be Malay nor involved in any charges, yet it was reported that the DAP leaders couldn't reach her too. Similar to Osman and Jamaluddin, she disappeared before (Her service center was close during her disappearance, read from The Nut Graph). To where? Nobody can be sure. I think she said she was sick or something, but so sick until it rendered her unreachable? As a responsible assemblywoman, shouldn't she have at least ask someone to inform her superior, whatever her reason of disappearance, no?
Dunno lah, seems to me only BN plus their die-hard supporters and the MSM is celebrating this "victory". Everywhere else I turn to, I sense anger, disappointment, and defiance. Tell me when you met an ordinary Malaysian that's not annoyed and confused by the whole fiasco.
PR may have lost Perak now, but they can use this (additional) example to remind the rakyat how power-crazy and undemocratic the BN is. Who knows? This might actually be a curse in blessing.
Like you, I despice the way the MSM has acted, but this is nothing new. And I've to disagree with you over the point that "the rakyat have no say in the mainstream media".
It is not the government or the media's sole responsibility to hold the media accountable. The rakyat has the responsibility to scrutinize the media, mainstream or alternative, as much as the media itself or the government.
Only through this way, can the rakyat claim their (rightful) ownership over the media. They can write letters to editor, even to the political parties that own the MSM, boycott the MSM, submit petition to the MSM and their owners... There are so many things they can do, the question is: Will they do it?
It is unfair to blame the MSM alone. What? You expect the few journalists to fight the filthy rich cum politically powerful owners and get thrown into jail for god knows how many years? Perhaps that's what the rakyat is expecting, but is it reasonable to demand so much when the rakyat themselves ain't willing to do the few things I mentioned above for the journalists?
If we continue to do nothing, and allow the MSM and its owner to have their own ways, I hate to say it, but the Malaysians deserve the kinda reporting they're getting. Sometimes, if you want something, you do have do have to fight for it, and I'm afraid the journalists can't fight it alone, the rakyat must fight alongside them.
indeed... the ppl so openly claim they do not trust the msm. but when something negative is published about PR, they look for PR's blood.
our ppl are hopeless.
